What does it feel like to be fifty?

Half a century. Terrific. Terrible.  I certainly don’t look fifty most of the time.

Thank you, daughter for your talents with hair!  My face, not showing the many wrinkles of some of my classmates either. My body, a little soft and not quite as muscle toned as a thirty-five year old, but then I would be thirty-five if it were.

What bothers me most is the fact that I remember society when ideas were not as intense as they are today. Anyone with an opinion seems to be so down right, well how would you put this. So down right correct. About every thing. And anyone with a different view is held as an alien to the correctness.  I think at times I have had......

ENOUGH……..

I’m not:

Man …. enough,.... do not look for my strength.

Female…. enough,.... do not look for my beauty.

Old…. enough,.... do not look for my written life’s agenda.

Young …. enough,.... do not look for rebellion.

Scholarly…. enough,.... do not see uneducated.

Wise… enough,   do not see a novice thinker.

                 I am…

……..       the small American with a devoted inner voice,

subjected to a crazy world’s principles.

A  rowdy, information chatter.

The voice is not something “thought” about.

You can hear it in the way a problem is solved,

a poem is written or wisdom recorded.

Listen, and you can hear how constant it is,

in a frame of mind, or an emotional feeling.

There is no sense trying to conjure this voice,

it’s not a genie in a bottle, calling;

“Help! Help! Release me and I am with you.”

Small in standing compared to the entire country’s obsession,

the small American has a persistent voice.

Like a war heroes’ brave spirit, loyal and noble,

The spoken voice relayed,

to protect our rights as United States citizens.

That no dictator should ever rule here.

I believe the small inner voice was justly defined.

As the founding Father’s of this nation,

who at one time were many “small American’s”,

Their voices predestined the people in this nation,

and summarized what a small American is and would be,

in that era and for years afterward.

Written in our country’s Charters of Freedom,

And in the documents that meant so much,

to those who considered defining who we are,

The phrase’s “We The People…”, and “When in the course of human events….”

words of strength for the small American as a whole assembly,

together unified.

Today, its my belief,

These words are used as a power language

for separation of the small American,

into smaller Americans,

by definition of the whole world’s ideology.

Those who are impassioned people,

to govern this age of difference, frustration, hate, change and violence,

have weakened the basic documents.

Each a separate group;

to ensure strength and power,

to lobby for changes,

so that…. their life issues may become laws,

an invitation for restriction of life, and loss of freedom,

to the “Smaller American.”

When this happens, this action says to me,

“ I am  “Self’” conscious Americans.”

Should I be an Embarrassed American?

I cannot recite what the Constitution of the United States of America says.

And yet… I try to change it.

Should I be an Embarrassed American?

When my letters to my representatives and congress separate my brothers, and sisters,

and my neighbor, overtly because of my life issues.

That’s when I divide the small American.

I am the Embarrassed small American,

when institutionalized education means more than my life experiences, an education itself.

….because the world says to me ….I must be a scholar.

I am Embarrassed to be a small American

When in a position of administration I don’t ask, why?

Have I failed under my administrative jurisdiction,

forgetting to think dimensionally?

If I can’t judge, and remember to pardon others or myself....

 ..... then all else fails.

I am just a small American ......

.........who’s had Enough
